Gemini appreciation thread

Gemini is a new internet protocol which, is heavier than gopher, is lighter than the web, will not replace either, strives for maximum power to weight ratio and takes user privacy very seriously

Gemini appreciation thread

Are you a Zoomer or late millenial and wish you could have experienced what the internet was like in the 90s? Are you tired of Javascript and CSS and rich text and inline links? Are you looking for a cool online community? Then Gemini might be for you! Get a browser like Lagrange and get yourself a capsule on gemini://koyu.space or somewhere else and write blog posts for a very tiny audience.

It seems to me like a place where the volume is much lower than on the big web, and everything just feels more genuine and personal.

Share your capsules (= personal gemini sites) here, mine is at gemini://dira.cc

Just installed Lagrange and I really like its style! I didn't know about any Gemini based browsers before, thanks for letting me know, using one makes me feel like I'm in a retro future. When I head back to college I might try to set up my own Gemini capsule. While Mastodon is fun, writing out longer blog post would be more my style than mircoblogging. Before that though I might also set one up on koyu.space too.

Oh yes it is perfect for macroblogging. I personally don't follow any long form blogs on the big web, but on gemini I actually take my time to read what people have to say. And not the blogs of influencers, but those of regular people writing about what they're up to and how they are feeling. Well, they are preselected as the type of people who would use some extremely obscure internet protocol but still.
